Newsletter: MakersMarathon (English)

Hello there!

There was a nice atmosphere last week in the Design museum in Ghent. Between the concepts of Eames, Le Corbusier and Van Severen, 70 experts focused on the challenges of the future. This was the Makers Marathon!

What would happen if we gather entrepreneurs, academics, policy makers, students and civilians to think about different challenges through co-creation and design thinking? What started as a small idea developed into a two-day marathon under the guidance of Adriaan Debruyne and Hannes Couvreur.

On the basis of 'Double Diamond', Adriaan and Hannes had our guests brainstorm on mobility, society and technology parks of the future. According to that principle, the challenge expands to a larger perception (Who are the stakeholders? What is the context?) in order to redefine the problem and to find a specific solution. Finding that larger perception was important on the first day of the Makers Marathon. During the whole process, techniques and tools were applied that are especially used by designers. You can find the reports from day 1 and day 2 on our website.

The result of the Makers Marathon was presented last Friday in the Vismijn in the presence of Philippe Muyters (Flemish Minister of Work, Economy, Innovation and Sport) and Mathias De Clercq (First City Counsel Member of Ghent, City Counsel Member of the Port of Ghent and Economy). You can find the report here.
